Starting with a new bookkeeper shouldn't feel like a mystery. Here's exactly what happens when you work with Amber Record Bookkeeping, from your first call to your first monthly report.
We start with a no-pressure phone call to talk through your business, your current bookkeeping situation, and what you're looking for. No obligation, no pitch — just a conversation to see if we're a good fit.
Based on what we cover during your discovery call, I'll put together an engagement letter tailored to your actual business — your transaction volume, complexity, and goals, not a one-size-fits-all package. Depending on your situation, this may also include a look at your existing books before the details are finalized.
Once you sign the engagement letter, you'll receive an invoice for your first month, due upon receipt. Onboarding begins once payment is confirmed.
You'll receive a short onboarding packet covering exactly what's needed — account access, any existing financial records, and a quick call to confirm how your books should be organized. Your first monthly close and report are delivered within 30 days.
That's it. No long sales process, no confusing handoffs — just a clear path from "let's talk" to accurate, current books.
Plans start at $300/month for very small or side businesses, with pricing scaling based on your transaction volume and complexity — not just your business size. The most accurate way to get a number for your specific business is a free discovery call.
Every plan includes transaction categorization, bank and credit card reconciliation, and financial reporting (Profit & Loss, and Balance Sheet on most plans). Add-ons like payroll processing, sales tax filing, and invoicing/AR management are available if you need them.
Both, depending on what your business actually needs. Smaller plans are cash-basis, which is simpler and sufficient for most solopreneurs and side businesses. Accrual-basis accounting is available on Essentials and Growth plans for businesses that need it.
QuickBooks Online. If you're not already set up, I can help you get started.
Email is the primary channel for documents, questions, and monthly reports. I'm available Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.– 4 p.m., and messages outside those hours are answered the next business day. Quick questions are always welcome and I'd rather clarify something small than have you guess.
Typically: a government-issued ID for identity verification, your 2 – 3 most recent bank and credit card statements, your prior-year tax return if available, and payroll provider details if you have employees. I'll walk you through exactly what's needed once you're onboarded.
Yes. Documents are shared through restricted, permission-based access, never a public link, and financial account access is handled the same way. Your information is only ever visible to people you and I specifically grant access to.
Absolutely. Catch-up and cleanup work is one of the most common requests I get, and it's usually faster to sort out than people expect. There's no judgment about how things got behind and the goal is just to get you current and keep you there.
No niche is too narrow and no business is too small. I work with a wide range of industries, including construction, real estate, professional services, technology, and publishing, among others.
From your discovery call to your first delivered monthly report is typically about 30 days, depending on how quickly documents and account access come together.
There's no long-term contract and everything is month-to-month. You can upgrade, downgrade, or adjust your add-on services at any time, with changes taking effect at the start of your next billing cycle. If you ever need to cancel, just provide 14 days' notice.
